As a marketer, I find Pinterest to be one of the best platforms for consumers to seek inspiration and discover new brands. However, looking for new ideas to promote brands can be challenging. Enter Pinterest Trends.
What Are Pinterest Trends?
Pinterest Trends is a tool available to Pinterest users and advertisers that displays a historical view of the top search terms in select countries or regions. What’s really cool is the tool shows you when people are searching for various keywords, helping you plan Pinterest ad campaigns several months in advance. Remember that pinners are planners, so you need to think ahead at least two to three months before key events happen.
How To Use Pinterest Trends
- Go to on your desktop or mobile web browser. (At this time, it is not available on the mobile app).
- Log in to your Pinterest business account.
- Select your region in the drop-down menu. The United States is the first country on the list.
- Enter your keywords.
Don’t Have Any Keywords in Mind?
That’s okay!
Scroll down the page to find popular content that is trending in your region 😲. See measurable differences compared to the previous week, month, and year to analyze the growth potential.
More filter options, such as interest, age, and gender, are available in the left-hand navigation.
The Trend Type drop-down menu is a great feature. Currently, top monthly trends, top yearly trends, growing trends, and seasonal trends are available. Choose one of the trends, and the keywords to the right will dynamically change.
Now, click one of the keywords to further analyze the trend report. A new window or tab will open.
Charts and graphs visually show the interest over time (over the past three months, past six months, or past year), related trends (which is helpful when you want to add in more keywords), demographics, and finally popular pins.
The popular pins section provides a small sample of pins using the selected keywords.
When you are ready to turn your keywords into a campaign, simply click the “Create campaign” button to get started. A new window or tab will open to select or create a pin in the simple view. You can switch to advanced ad creation for more control and customization.
Some Helpful Tips to Get Started
- Regularly check Pinterest Trends
- Make it a habit to review Trends weekly or monthly because trending keywords do change.
- At a minimum, check Trends quarterly especially if your business is more likely to be seasonal.
- Allocate a small budget to a Trending Keyword campaign
- Test with a nominal budget (about 5%-10% of your daily budget).
- Optimize for consideration (formerly traffic) if your budget is small
- The campaign will drive visits to your site before you pivot to a campaign optimizing for conversions.
- Create pins specifically for your trending keyword campaign
- Start with two to four pins.
- Remember to add your logo and a call-to-action on your creatives!
- Consider adding more than one campaign
- If you have several keywords, consider separating them into more than one Pinterest campaign.
- Run your campaign for at least 30 days
- Analyze the data, and optimize as needed.
- Optimizations could include increasing your budget, adding new pins, or adding new keywords.
With the combination of hard data and visual examples, Pinterest Trends is a tool advertisers should consider implementing into their campaigns. It can spark ideas that turn brainstorming into actionable strategies.
