The hair trends to know on Pinterest in 2024

While there may be a new hair styling trend each week, one thing that remains the same is our shared desire for healthy hair.

No matter the style, healthy hair can make or break a look, and hair care tips have been on the rise over the last year.

On Pinterest, searches for ‘hair care’, ‘healthy hair tips’ and ‘hair care products’ are constantly high as people look for ways to achieve and maintain glossy locks.

When your hair looks and feels healthy, you tend to feel better about yourself.

That’s why the latest innovations in the world of hair focus on improving the condition of hair, as consumers look to prioritise hair health just as much as, if not more than, style.

So, what are brands doing to help people feel happy about their hair?

Healthy hair starts at the roots and scalp care is definitely having a moment.

In 2023, Pinterest’s annual trend report predicted the rise of scalp care as searches for ‘treatments for dry scalps’, ‘clean scalp build up’ and ‘scalp scrubs’ all shot up.

Poor scalp health can lead to dull, lacklustre tresses and immediately places you on the backfoot on your hair care journey.

It seems Gen Z are especially interested in a bit of scalp TLC as nearly half of Pinterest searches for ‘scalp scrub’ are from the younger generation.

From scalp scrubs to soaks and serums, there’s a range of products designed to help nurture your scalp from the comfort of your own home, and Ouai Scalp Serum, Nizoral Shampoo and Mizani Scalp Care Shampoo are all proving particularly popular.

People are also heading to Pinterest for tips on how to create their own DIY scalp remedies.

Alternatively, there’s also the option to try out salon treatments, such as the Kérastase Full Salon Protocol.

Another hidden offender of damaged hair is broken bonds.

Much like poor scalp health, broken hair bonds lead to dry, unhealthy hair.

I’m a strong believer that the future of hair repair lies in bond repair treatments and it’s essential that a brand’s hair care range features the product.

Olaplex kicked off the trend in 2014 and ten years later every major hair care brand offers the hair strengthening, bond building product.

For example, L’Oréal offers a shampoo, conditioner and serum which uses citric acid complex to intensively rebuild broken hair bonds.

Over the past year, there’s been increasing reports of hair loss among young women, caused by over-styling, over-bleaching and a range of stress factors.

Thanks to social media, there’s heightened awareness of the effects of over-colouring and styling, but what do you do if the damage is already done?

Bond repair is scientifically backed by dermatologists who champion the product’s ability to repair breakage, making it a trusted remedy for consumers.

Scalp care and bond repair do the hard work in building strength in your hair, but people are also on the hunt for products that finish the look with a perfect touch of shine and gloss.

On Pinterest, searches for ‘shiny hair’ and ‘silky hair’ have shot up over recent months and brands are launching all sorts of products that help consumers achieve more silky hair.

The most sought-after products go beyond creating a superficial shine and bestow proteins and vitamins to revive dry, dull and dehydrated hair.

As we look ahead to the summer months, shine sprays are sure to become an essential of any hair care routine as people look to tame frizz and flyaways in the heat.

Whether you’re launching an in-shower gloss, humidity blocker or shine-enhancing styler, it’s really important that your product works on all hair types.

A great example of this, Ouai’s new Hair Gloss is a shine-enhancing treatment which suits all textures from fine and straight to coarse and coily.

On Pinterest, users can try out the Hair Pattern search tool which allows them to search for and shop products to suit their individual hair type.

The hair care industry is sure to only continue growing in popularity as people look to give their hair the love it needs, from the roots to the ends.

Instead of opting for superficial quick fixes, scalp care, bond treatments and nourishing shine sprays are key products that brands will do well to feature in their ranges.
