“That fateful night, my husband got money from selling onions and went to a bar. When he came home later in the evening, he came with an injured eye. I asked to take him to the hospital, but he refused, saying he did not want to take p3 forms,” Leah Nyawira, the mother and wife of the inmates, said.

In 2020, a year after the incident, five police officers stormed Nyawira’s homestead and arrested her husband and sons.

On her part, the wife of John, one of the jailed sons, said as Kihoi was being arrested, he called out to her husband, telling him to take care of his goats.

“However, one of the police officers responded back saying they were also arresting John,” she said.

Evans Mutitu’s wife, Kihoi’s son-in-law, said her husband had accompanied Kihoi to the bar on the night of the incident.
