A Nyeri family has painfully narrated the events that led to the arrest and subsequent imprisonment of a father and his four adult sons for a combined sentence of 100 years.

Speaking to Inooro TV, their wives tearfully narrated how living without the support of their husbands has been challenging.

“That fateful night, my husband got money from selling onions and went to a bar. When he came home later in the evening, he came with an injured eye. I asked to take him to the hospital, but he refused, saying he did not want to take p3 forms,” Leah Nyawira, the mother and wife of the inmates, said.
In 2020, a year after the incident, five police officers stormed Nyawira’s homestead and arrested her husband and sons.
On her part, the wife of John, one of the jailed sons, said as Kihoi was being arrested, he called out to her husband, telling him to take care of his goats.
“However, one of the police officers responded back saying they were also arresting John,” she said.
Evans Mutitu’s wife, Kihoi’s son-in-law, said her husband had accompanied Kihoi to the bar on the night of the incident.

The wives revealed that they tried talking to the complainant, and he demanded 800k from the five accused persons so that he could withdraw the case. However, they could not raise the money.
Ken Wachira’s wife revealed that she was unaware that her husband had an ongoing court case when they married.
“He left me with a two-month-old baby. I waited for him that day, but he did not return home. I would later learn that he had been imprisoned for 20 years, together with his dad and brothers,” she said.
Well-wishers offer to help
Since the plight of the five family members emerged, many lawyers and area MCA Kirugu Thuku have offered to make appeals and represent them, citing several loopholes.
“We were sentenced to 100 years in prison with five of us expected to do 20 years,” Kihoi said in a previous interview.
The father and sons are imprisoned until 2037.
