Clark, Jane Dickson 96, of Wilmette, Illinois, died peacefully Sunday, August 17 of natural causes. Mrs. Clark was Senior Consultant to Private Line, and a partner of M-J Enterprises, a public relations agency specializing in family planning and population issues in the developing world. She majored in journalism at Northwestern University and later was employed as a trade magazine editor in Chicago and New York before marriage and a return to Chicago. While raising a family of four, she worked as a journalist, media and communications consultant for a variety of state, national and international nonprofit organizations specializing in population, family planning, and women’s issues. In 1981, received the coveted Golden Trumpet Award from the Publicity Club of Chicago for “NO! And Other Methods of Birth Control,” a public relations campaign she designed for the Illinois Family Planning Council. She traveled throughout the world as a media and social marketing expert with Planned Parenthood and Private Line. Represented the Population Institute at the United Nations Conferences in Sri Lanka in 1982 and Geneva in 1983. In 2005, she received the National Mature Media Merit Award for her articles in Chimes magazine, honoring the best in advertising, marketing and educational materials for older adults. Until very recently, Mrs. Clark was an active member of Women in Communications Inc., North Shore Associates, Women Over 50, Sheridan Shore Yacht Club, and First Congregational Church of Wilmette. She excelled at bridge, golf, and competitive sailboat racing with her late husband, Pete, and flew a shy spinnaker on the family’s Flying Scot. She loved dogs, enjoyed entertaining, and always threw a great party. Most of all, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who loved her husband and adored her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. We love her dearly and we will always cherish and be thankful for her gracious and generous presence in our lives. Preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years, Arthur D. “Pete” Clark (Lt. Col.); her adoring brother, John W. “Jack” Dickson; and survived by her children, A. Dickson Clark (Mary), Deborah Clark Vance (Steve), John W. Clark (Patricia Nealon), Lisa Clark (Andy Weingartner); grandchildren, Sonia Sorensen (Peter), Remo Imparato (Kristin), Amy Whetstone (Aaron), Max C. Levine, Paula Clark, Anna Vanderpoel (Scott), Adrienne Clark, Benjamin Clark; and her great-grandchildren, Ava, Zoe and Harper. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, August 30, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Elliott Chapel, 3200 Grant Street, Presbyterian Homes, Evanston, IL. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Planned Parenthood, the Evanston Community Foundation, the Geneva Foundation of Presbyterian Homes, the Anti-Cruelty Society, WFMT, or Midwest Hospice.
