How did UoN lecturer Samwel Mwanda die?
The body of Samwel Owino Mwanda was found at his compound on Thursday, September 19, in Kachola village, Kodera South location, in Rachuonyo South sub-county.
According to South Kodera Senior Chief Joseph Mboga, the university don had returned home from Nairobi, and his death was discovered by his worker.
“The body of the university lecturer was found by his employee in his compound this evening. We still don’t know what could have led to him … Investigations have already been started,” he stated.
Homa Bay County Police Commander Hassan Barua confirmed the incident, saying Owino had an evening meal with his employee on Wednesday, September 18, and was to travel back to Nairobi on Thursday, September 19.
Barua said police found a ladder that the don could have climbed before harming himself and a note with his wife’s mobile number.

The body was moved to the Rachuonyo South sub-county mortuary, awaiting postmortem.

Elsewhere, Brian Ongwae had staked the KSh 15,000 he was to pay as his fees in anticipation of high returns.
The 22-year-old resided in the Raila Estate. According to his neighbours, the young man locked himself inside his house and could be heard from the outside conversing with someone.
All as well until silence rocked his house, with the neighbours seeking his whereabouts. They were later shocked to find Ongwae’s body inside the house.
Confirming the tragic incident, Muguimoini location chief George Mukuria said the police showed up at the house and processed it for their probe as they took the body to the City Mortuary ahead of an autopsy.
