Does a percentage increase in quadruple-digits even exist? According to Pinterest’s first-party data, yes.
Using the data collected from their most popular searches, Pinterest, a social media website used for visual discovery, has released its annual report on its predictions for trends in 2025. Pinterest Predicts categorizes upticks in searches related to food, fashion and aesthetics that may not be as niche come the new year, giving many some insight for what will be “in” and what will be “out.”
Dust off those Rococo outfits
The most astronomical increase in searches, according to the report, surrounds the Rococo era. Occurring later in the Baroque era from 1740 to 1770, Rococo was known for being light, colorful, feminine and elegant. On Pinterest, searches for “Rococo outfit” increased by an astonishing 5,465%, indicating that ornate furniture and classic corset gowns will likely make a big comeback in 2025.
On a similar note, searches that are categorized by Pinterest as “Goddess Complex” also play into the theme of elegance. The report predicts that in 2025, “Boomers and Gen. X will go all in on their feminine power,” embracing divinity while dripping in gold. Searches for “Goddess core” and “Goddess energy aesthetic” increased by 40% and 170% respectively, while searches for “Goddess nails” skyrocketed by 760%.
Gold is happening
Despite both previously-mentioned categories sharing the similarity of gold, gold and more gold, the idea of bright color palettes seems to be more of everyone’s fancy. Pinterest mentioned in its report that searches for “new wave” makeup and “full color makeup eyes” grew by 410% and 365% respectively.
However, the data from the report suggests that the most trendy color will be cherry red. The number of searches for “cherry vibe” and “dark cherry red” surged by 325% and 235% respectively, while “cherry car” increased by 270%.
Maximalism is the new minimalism
Remember the “clean girl” aesthetic paired with minimalism? From Pinterest’s perspective, those will be old news next year. Maximalism is predicted to make a comeback, specifically eclectic, which means something that is made of aspects drawn from various sources. Searches in both eclectic and vintage maximalism increased by 215% and 260% respectively, and the search “Eclectic apartment” surged by 630%.
Along with aesthetics such as “Castlecore,” ocean-inspired themes (Pinterest reported a 695% increase in searches for “Dark siren makeup”) and “Solarpunk,” another that had massive upticks in searches for “Moto Boho” fashion. “Moto,” also known as “biker chic,” is a clothing style that utilizes leather jackets, graphic shirts, chains and silver jewelry. For this fashion, searches for “Moto boots outfit” increased by 445%.
“Boho,” short for “bohemian,” is described as a free-spirited aesthetic that features more-natural, earthly colors and materials. According to Pinterest’s report, searches for “Boho fits” surged drastically by 755%, while searches for “Lace skirt outfit” and “slouchy bag” increased by 360% and 345% respectively.
Based on Pinterest’s annual trends report, 2025 is expected to be a year of diverse styles; from medieval to modern, from cherry red to elegant gold, from sirens and sailors to dolls and video game avatars. However, today’s trends aren’t guaranteed to be tomorrow’s. Who knows what 2025 will hold in store?
