Many people shared AI-generated photos of stranded individuals and rescue efforts, which were later found to be fabricated. These images were not just misleading but potentially harmful, diverting attention from real victims in need of aid. We need companies to produce deepfake identification technology at a pace that can keep up with breakneck speed of ever increasing deepfake sophistication.
