Nairobi – Police are detaining a young man suspected of having a hand in the murder of an elderly woman.

Seventy-eight-year-old Catherine Waceke went missing on Saturday, November 10, a day before her body was discovered inside the septic tank at her home in Nyathaini, Kasarani.

In their preliminary probe, the detectives established that the murder was undertaken within the deceased’s compound.

A manhunt was immediately initiated for 21-year-old Victor Ambeyi, who worked for the deceased as a casual labourer.
The search successfully led the detectives to Kinoo, Kiambu county, where they found the suspect.
“The suspect, Victor Ambeyi, was smoked out of his hideout at Valley area of Kinoo in Kiambu County where the suspect was being harbored by his cousin, Collins Seda Wanjau, 22. The two were arrested,” the DCI said.
After interrogating the suspects, detectives furthered the investigation to Githurai 44, where they recovered the mobile phone of the deceased at a phone repair shop belonging to 22-year-old Benjamin Kimani Mwaura.
He was also taken into custody.
The three suspects were booked at Kasarani Police Station ahead of their arraignment as detectives seek to unearth the motive behind the heinous murder.
This came weeks after another murder within the Kasarani sub-county.

It was on November 2 when police launched a manhunt for a man who allegedly stabbed his lover to death.
The deceased was identified as Lilian Achieng’, and the suspect George Mutegi.
Achieng’s body was found in a pool of blood on the floor of their three-bedroom house in Kahawa West, with stab wounds visible on the body.
Mutegi fled the scene after the killing and switched off his phone; the investigators at the scene recovered a kitchen knife believed to have been used in the attack.
The body draped in bedding was ferried to the Kenyatta Memorial Funeral Home as investigations into the murder gained momentum.
