Blendbox

Blockade Labs, the team behind the popular Skybox AI for generating panoramic 3D environments, is expanding its AI toolkit with the launch of Blendbox. This new tool, unveiled on October 31, gives users precise, real-time control over 2D generative artwork, addressing common frustrations like limited customization and reliance on complex prompts. Blendbox stands apart by offering an interactive canvas where users arrange elements—like images, textures, and lighting—with immediate visual feedback, without needing extensive technical skills.

Blendbox integrates features inspired by both creative control software and AI, resembling Adobe’s Generative Fill, but with a unique “photo-bashing” AI that composites images with fine-tuned detail. Users can modify every component without starting over, allowing for efficient adjustments and a creative flow more akin to traditional digital art than to current AI generators. The interface also offers modular image control and layers, akin to Photoshop, so that creators can work on individual sections without affecting the entire composition.

Blendbox

Marguerite deCourcelle, CEO of Blockade Labs, describes Blendbox as a tool for “creators who want precise control, from beginners to pros.” For co-founder Adam Levine, the platform marks an evolution in AI-powered creativity, prioritizing intuitive design over the more prompt-driven tools seen in early generative AI art platforms. Blendbox’s technology, he notes, eliminates the steep learning curve associated with conventional AI image generators, particularly benefiting those unfamiliar with the nuances of prompt engineering. “This is for artists who don’t want to wrestle with language,” Levine explains. “They can move elements around, see instant results, and focus on creating.”

Henry Daubrez, Global VP of Creative Innovation & Design at DEPT® / CCO at DOGSTUDIO/DEPT® is an early user of Blendbox. He says he’s using the new tool to generate objects and layers which he then pulls into Magnific for upscaling and finally, if the product is video, he then brings the finished image into Minimax to add animation. Daubrez says other tools don’t give him the control he requires. “Your control is as good as your prompt and the model behind it. If it is running on a model with a good prompt adherence, you can get to a certain point, but there are limits to any prompt,” said Daubrez. “With Blendbox, the real power is that you can have an infinity of elements where you want them to be at the size you want them to have because you control the composition.”

Future updates will allow users to import 3D models, use 360-degree backgrounds from Skybox AI, and apply unique lighting effects. This development is a logical step in Blockade’s broader mission: to empower digital artists across industries, from graphic design to advertising, gaming, and even education. Blendbox’s modular pricing, with packages starting at $10 per month, aims to make these tools accessible to a wide range of creators. You can even buy tokens a la carte starting at $3.95.

Skybox AI, launched in 2022, has been used to create over 15 million panoramic environments, garnering attention from major platforms for its innovative approach to 3D. Skybox users can craft 360-degree scenes with styles and depth previously possible only through specialized software, expanding possibilities for virtual world creators. Blendbox builds on that momentum, with a new focus on iterative, user-driven design.

Blendbox

Through Blendbox, Blockade Labs hopes to transform the 2D generative AI landscape as it did for 3D environments with Skybox. According to deCourcelle, the emphasis remains on empowering creators. “Our mission is to offer tools that help creators shape their vision with fewer limitations,” she says. As the AI art industry rapidly evolves, Blockade Labs’ latest tool offers a glimpse of how flexible, user-friendly design can make AI a powerful creative partner for everyone.
