Tell Yourself: I am worthy of the air I breathe. Day 10 of the Self Confidence Challenge

Yesterday, we discussed a bit about how it’s okay to have confusion and how to deal with it during your journey towards self-confidence.

Today is a HUGELY painful topic for me… but it has to to be done.

This is something that perhaps a lot of people just can’t comprehend.  Feeling like you’re worthy of the air you breathe?

But yep…. for some folk, they end up feeling so worthless, they basically apologize for taking up space (that’s tomorrow’s talk) and even… for using air that would be better put to use for some other organic creature, like dandelions or something.

It’s hell to experience… it really is.  I went thru this back when I was in college…. I vividly (like it was yesterday) remember being asked, “Who’s there?” by my professor before he came into the room… and I responded, “It’s nobody important, it’s only me.”

How sick is that?

  • Nobody important?
  • Only me?

My gosh.  Now, I have zero idea why that particular moment was emblazoned in my neurons… (perhaps it was such a stupid thing to say my Guardian Angel wanted me to remember it 30 years later so I could blog about it…. hmmmmm… enter the theme to the Twilight Zone…..)

But yep.

That happened.  Here’s more of a description:

Can you begin to imagine the level of worthlessness I must have felt back then?

Yep.

Now, a couple of things.  Notice how I didn’t say, how pathetic is that?  I instead asked you, “how sick is that?”.

Know why?

Because feeling worthless is NOT pathetic…. it’s a sickness of the spirit.

It’s not giving yourself permission to accept the tremendous qualities you possess RIGHT NOW….

And that’s just plain sad.

See… we all have our demons we fight.  They might be what our parents have told us….

…. or what people who we value have told us….

But the thing is, we’re NOT what people SAY we are.

We are what we give ourselves permission to truly BE.

So what’s your takeaway?

If you find yourself apologizing for the air you’re breathing, realize that’s your fears and insecurity talking….

… and not WHO you truly represent.

And now the question you’ve been waiting for:

How do you move from apologizing for yourself… to standing tall and self-confident?

Well!  First, you have to give yourself permission to accept you deserve self-confidence.

And that can be really scary…..

But it is certainly doable.

And work your way through.

Next, and stay with me here – this is important….

I want to introduce you to the animation “Steven Universe”.

To be precise, the guide over at:

Why?

This is an animation that speaks to the heart and soul of all that is good in the world…

…. and highlights powerful challenges like:

  • Insecurity
  • Love
  • Self-confidence
  • Fear

and dealing with them by simply… facing them and getting past whatever was holding you back.

Here’s the extended theme song:

As you know if you follow me on Facebook, I constantly share Steven Universe thingees…. I am always blown away by how helpful and soothing each episode’s weekly message can be.

Like this:

while resolved itself like so:  (and you’re strong, Pearl, strong in the real way!)

There’s so much to discuss regarding Steven Universe and how it simply lifts one’s spirit….

But notice.

Notice I digressed from not being worthy of the air you breathe….

… to becoming strong in the real way?

Self-confidence.  It’s a hero’s journey.

So if you currently apologize for the air you breathe….

… give yourself permission to consider the possibility that…

You view yourself incorrectly.  You are worthy of greatness…..

You might not believe it today, or tomorrow, or next week….

… but if you revisit the idea that you’re grand at least once a day….

Eventually….

It will seep in.

And you’ll be that much closer to achieving the self-confidence you deserve.

Woot!
