It’s that time of year when you might feel stretched trying to find gifts for everyone in the spirit of giving.

Some of you may feel stressed managing the household, hosting guests, and preparing a festive holiday menu, not to mention finding fun things to do with the family – all of which require money.

The good news is that you can take advantage of the festive season to make some extra money. If you’re still looking for a side hustle, let these ideas inspire you.

1. Personalised gifting

If you enjoy doing arts and crafts or baking, you could use your talents to make money. Creating personalised gifts is an appealing business idea to people looking for gift inspiration.

This could include offering items such as personalised diaries or notebooks, stationery, Christmas tree decor, baubles, cookie boxes, Christmas T-shirts, or pyjamas. These one-of-a-kind gifts are perfect for anyone searching for something special.

2. Gift wrapping

You can provide a gift-wrapping service and charge according to the gift size. Use unique embellishments to set yourself apart from the regular gift-wrapping services at malls. Consider adding a personalised gift tag for an extra special touch.

3. Digital Christmas cards

There are many online apps available that can make you appear professional in graphic design. Platforms like Canva are free to use and allow you to create digital Christmas cards. You can even ask your clients for a family photo and add these to the card.

Many people don’t have the time to print or design their own cards, so this is a great way to appeal to people who still send out their festive greetings with cards.

4. Catering

If you’re a good baker or cook, you could offer party or dessert platters for get-togethers during the festive season. Many businesses close in December, and families often look for caterers during this time.

5. Become a designated taxi driver

During the holidays, many people enjoy alcoholic drinks while out and tend to hire e-hailing taxi services. You can sign up for various e-hailing taxi services and drive people around during the holidays – as long as you have a valid driver’s license and a licensed vehicle.

Alternatively, you could become the designated driver for your friends and family at a fee. You could charge based on distance and serve as the go-to drop-off and pick-up driver for your loved ones.
