SHARLENE Mawdsley shared a snapshot of her ‘work-life balance’ that ranged from gruelling training sessions to glamorous galas.
Most recently she stepped out with her fellow Team Ireland members to celebrate their Olympic exploits at the Clayton Hotel on Dublin’s Burlington Road.

Among a series of images she shared on Instagram, there were a couple of training shots…along with more fun ones where she was dolled up for a swanky evening of socialising.
The 26-year-old captioned the post: “Work-life balance.”
Among the replies was one from relay teammate Rhasidat Adeleke who gushed: “Love your lifeeee.”
The Tipperary native has been able to savour more PR events of late since she wrapped up a hectic 2024 season on the track in early-September.
The 400m specialist signed off with a victory at the Galà dei Castelli meeting in Switzerland.
She clocked a time of 51.35 to beat Austria’s Susanne Gogl-Walli and Lieke Klaver of the Netherlands to the line.
That was her first competition since coming within milliseconds of guiding the women’s relay team home to a bronze medal finish.
Mawdsley clearly took being pipped into fourth place in Paris very hard.
Not only was she very tough on herself immediately afterwards in the quartet’s emotional interview with David Gillick but she’s repeated how responsible she felt on a recent podcast appearance too.
Speaking with The 2 Johnnies, she explained: “I thought I was in second, but we’ve all gotten the baton at the same time.
“When I looked back on it, I was like, ‘not the end of the world’, because it does take four people and not just me.
“At that time, I thought that’s my fault that we came from second to fourth but we’d actually all gotten the baton at the same time which eased me a little bit.
“I had started crying on the track and then we went over and said thanks to the Irish fans for coming and I had seen my parents and I was like bawling.
“My Mum was like ‘you ran a 49.14’ so that was the fastest I’d ever ran.

Sophie Becker and Phil Healy rounded out the 4x400m team that came oh so close to medalling in Paris
“But she could’ve told me I ran a world record and it still wouldn’t have made a difference because I was so upset.
“We went up to the interview and I was last because we go in order so it was Sophie [Becker], Rhasidat [Adeleke] and Phil [Healy].
“The girls were of course already upset and I was bawling and I was like. ‘no I’ll be ready now.’
“As soon as David asked me a question I was gone.
“At the time, I was so embarrassed but looking back it’s good for people to see we don’t just go training everyday for no reason.
“But to be honest I had no idea that we’ll be in that position I genuinely thought we’d be at the back fighting for sixth or seventh.”
Despite the disappointment, the Newport native was honoured with an emotional homecoming.
