In a communique on Friday, September 20, State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed stated Ruto would be attending the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.
Hussein stressed the magnitude of the UNGA meeting, adding that the focus would be on sustainable development, global governance, and climate action.
“President William Ruto is set to depart tonight for the United States to participate in the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York. This high-level event is one of the most significant global forums, bringing together world leaders to address critical international issues, with a particular emphasis on sustainable development, global governance, and climate action,” read the statement in part.

Hussein said Ruto would participate in high-level discussions on the digital economy, focusing on promoting inclusivity, particularly in emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI) and data governance.

Moreover, Ruto will hold bilateral meetings with world leaders and international organisations, seeking to strengthen Kenya’s partnerships in areas such as trade, investment, and diplomacy.
His agenda also includes enhancing the country’s leadership in climate action and exploring strategic collaborations in renewable energy and digital innovation.
Ruto will also push for greater African representation in global institutions, including the UN Security Council and the International Monetary Fund.
“The President’s agenda is focused on ensuring that Africa’s interests are not only heard but also acted upon in shaping a more inclusive, sustainable, and equitable world order,” he stated.
