Discover lens-based media and AI art at art_house_life’s exclusive exhibition

The door to art_house_life in Madeira Road, Ventnor is now open to visitors offering access to an exclusive contemporary art show running from 19th -28th July as part of Ventnor Fringe Festival.

Entry is free, but you will need to book either a morning or afternoon visit via the Ventnor Fringe Box Office. Opening times will be 10.30am to 12.30pm and 2pm to 4.30pm.

19 artists selected to take part
This year a whopping nineteen local, national and international artists have been selected for their innovative and exploratory use of lens-based media, including the currently controversial AI.

In this three part series of features, we’ll introduce you to the artists, panellists and performers.

Talks, performances and panel Q&A
As well as having access to the contemporary art exhibition, there are a number of events taking place at art_house_life over the ten days of Ventnor Fringe, with this Saturday (20th) and Sunday (21st) offering the chance to meet three of the exhibiting artists (see more below).

AI in the hands of artists
Monday brings a very special event: The panel Q&A event, AI in the hands of artists.

Listen to the thoughts of artists who have worked with AI, learn more about their experiences as they navigate creativity in the digital age.

Sitting on the panel are John Ewbank, Alicia French, Jan Frith, Maggie Sawkins, Paradox Paul, Steve Rushton and Lorrain Baggaley.

Ovid with Reverb
Ovid with Reverb (Steve Rushton and Lorrain Baggaley) are a poetry and sound project that reboot and distort classical poetry with the help of rock and roll and other pop-cultural influences.

For art-house-life’s ‘Reality Disrupted’ they conduct experiments in the use of narrative and repetition, taking verse away from the rule of breath and towards a polyvocalism where everything is organised by rhythm.

Steve and Lorrain

Steve and Lorrain will be performing Ovid With Reverb at art_house_life at 7.30pm on Monday 22nd July.

Book your free tickets via the Ventnor Fringe Box Office.

Meet the artist: Jeremy Morgan
My work has been a form of visual research manifesting through collage and paintings at various scales. The focus of the work has been the fusion of various trajectories; the direct experience of the phenomena of the natural world. The work then positions itself, endeavouring to find a balance between alluding to phenomena of the natural world while resisting the notion of mimesis. Thus the work strives towards the realization of the abstract in visual realms. Giving optical fidelity to the otherwise invisible.

You can meet Jeremy at art_house_life between 11am and 12 noon or 2.30pm to 3.30pm on Saturday 20th July. Book your free tickets via the Ventnor Fringe Box Office.

Meet the artist: Alicia French
Alicia’s art practice lies within the uncanniness of everyday life and twisting things to rebirth something new; extracting the strangeness from the ordinary to investigate the known and unknown, comfort and discomfort, the familiar and the unfamiliar. From exploring the uncomfortableness of trypophobia and arachnophobia, to abstracting and reinventing the natural world around us.

Alicia French

Inspired by her surroundings, Alicia collects natural materials from her encompassing landscape of local woodland and beaches, which go on to inspire her diverse practice of drawing, painting, sculpture, and film.

Alicia’s film work combines Al generation software with an image of her soft sculpture series ‘Growth’, where she explores the unpredictable uncanniness of Al distortion as a tool on her existing artforms.

You can find out more by meeting Alicia at art_house_life between 11am and 12 noon on Sunday 21st July. Book your free tickets via the Ventnor Fringe Box Office.

Meet the artist: Julian Winslow
Julian is an Isle of Wight photographer who came to public attention through his commercial and editorial work. His commercial work has taken him around the world, however his personal output is focused on time, memory and the moment. He’s also been involved in many community-led projects across the Island.

Julian Winslow

You can meet Julian at art_house_life between 2.30 and 3.30pm on Sunday 21st July, and will also be participating in art-house-life’s Panel Event: Traditional processes in contemporary photography from 2pm to 4.30pm Friday 26th July. Book your free tickets via the Ventnor Fringe Box Office.
