Bellini Baby Furniture Is Reborn For The Instagram And TikTok Era

Bellini’s Paris Nursery Collection

Bellini

In the late ’90s and 2000s, there was no baby and children’s furniture brand hotter than Bellini. It was the store where parents purchased aesthetic children’s furniture and baby gear before Instagram and TikTok—even before the word “aesthetic” was a term we used every day. It was also popular with celebrities, including Jennifer Lopez, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Bethenny Frankel.

After being purchased by private investors, the brand was re-launched in 2024. At a time when parents are more obsessed with than ever baby gear and having a stylish nursery—the timing couldn’t be better to bring back the beloved brand.

The Legacy

Founded in 1986, the store was one of the first names associated with the upscale nursery furniture market for a generation. It thrived as a retailer (when retail was everything) and even franchised nationally. “My parents bought my furniture from Bellini when I was born so I felt it was quality and would last for many years, which it did,” Durée Mellion Ross, a publicist and mother in Florida, tells me. “Then I bought Bellini for my son in 2003 and again for my daughter in 2006. We used the dressers for many years after the kids were out of their cribs! We still have the glider, rocking chair and ottoman, more than 21 years old now! We have re-upholstered it several times.”

Bellini had a similar legacy in New York City where there was a location on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. “I had passed by it so many times and always thought the bedding was so cute. I was pregnant with my first daughter so I went to the place I was familiar with,” says Megan Doyle. “I had a good experience. They took the time to make sure I had everything I needed. It felt like a classic New York place. It also was expensive compared to most other places.”

The brand’s return feels joyous and nostalgic to Long Island mother Rachel Slavin, who purchased furniture for her children over a decade ago. “Happy to hear the company is coming back! They always had a beautiful showroom that made shopping for your baby fun and really special.”

While the brand isn’t planning to open up any of its own stores (at least as of 2024), there are future plans to sell the furniture at retail locations.

The Vision

Much like the old Bellini, the new incarnation of the brand seeks to be the go-to for parents who want high-end, quality products. “We use the best materials and finishes available to us. We want these pieces to last a lifetime, so there’s a huge focus on quality and material,” says Lorraine Gold, Chief Marketing Officer. “Our team of designers is constantly finding inspiration from the art world, natural elements, as well as classical and midcentury designs, and by incorporating those ideas into our pieces we’re able to infuse the nursery with works of art, rather than just furniture.”

Nursery Collections

Bellini launched with three distinctive nursery furniture collections—Paris, Aspen, and Vienna. .

The Paris collection has a European vibe and upholstered details. The white-washed wood frame of the crib and two built-in drawers make it a convenient choice. That said, the brass-handled dresser has seven drawers. So there is more than enough space to hold the wardrobe of even the best-dressed babies.

The Aspen collection features a gorgeous cane panel in a choice of a light or dark wood frame. Like Paris, the Aspen crib has built-in drawers, but with simple knob hardware. The dresser has a matching cane panel and six drawers.

The Vienna Collection

The Vienna Collection has a distinctive ash wood frame and acrylic bars for a stylish modern look. The matching dresser even has acrylic hardware. Ideal for gender neutral nurseries, acrylic cribs have been a major trend in recent years.

There’s also choice of seven different organic crib sheet designs including toile, gingham, floral, leaf, and striped prints.

Lastly, the brand is also offering three essentials—a changing tray, changing pad, and crib mattress.

Eco-Friendliness At The Forefront

While the parents of yesteryear likely weren’t thinking about the dangers of VOCs (volatile organic compounds) or eco-friendliness, it’s important to know that Bellini’s furniture is Greenguard Gold certified—meaning it is non-toxic. This certification has become a non-negotiable for many parents.

Another way Bellini is eco-friendly is that the pieces are designed to be used beyond the infant years. For example, the cribs convert to toddler beds. “We want these pieces to look just as fresh in ten years as they do today. It’s a focus on past and present, the dichotomy between the two, that gives Bellini its elegant, timeless look. It allows us to create pieces that stand for themselves but can also be paired with lots of different décor and style preferences,” says Gold. “This allows the consumer to create a nursery that has an elevated, refined look. Our goal is to create heirloom-quality pieces that appeal to today’s parents, allowing the nursery to be an extension of their personal style.”

The dressers are also sustainably designed and can easily be used in an older child’s or teenager’s room.

Future Offerings

There are a variety of launches planned for the coming months including bassinets, strollers, and high chairs. “By introducing essential baby gear, we aim to provide modern parents-to-be with everything they need to care for their little one,” says Gold.

The high chair will have a modern aesthetic designed to last past the baby years. Gold tells me, “Our high chair will feature a modern design and incredibly versatile frame that adapts with little ones! Use it as a high chair and convert it later on into a beautiful, durable chair your child can sit in for years to come. With its natural finish, this wooden high chair will elevate your kitchen or dining room.”

The bassinets will feature a handcrafted stainless-steel frame with a brushed metal finish, a breathable interior, and a 100 percent organic GOTS Certified performance fabric exterior.

With design at the forefront of everything, Bellini isn’t just a brand that’s being relaunched, it’s likely to become a major player in this very important category again.
