1. Set a Goal

Having a reason for a no-spend month can help you to stick to your plan. You may want to put the money toward paying off your debt, making a necessary big purchase, or building an emergency fund. Once you have a goal, remember it every time you think about breaking the challenge. 

2. Start Meal Planning

Obviously, food counts as an essential item. However, a huge financial difference exists between eating out and preparing food at home. If that’s not something you do often, meal planning can help. Generally, you would shop once per week to get all the ingredients you need for a week’s worth of meals. That may sound daunting but your best bet is to choose easy meals with similar ingredients so you can stay within your budget and eat well. 

3. Create a Budget

According to financial experts, it’s a good idea to create a working budget instead of just jumping into a no-spend month. You might not have a set figure, at first, but you can start with recurring expenses like your bills and rent.
