A woman was decorating her house for Halloween when she spotted something she thought was “cute”—only to realize she had made a big mistake.
That mistake? Not checking it with her dogs first. Macie, who posts to TikTok under the username @macieelambb, shared a video in September revealing she was getting well into spooky season by picking up some Halloween-themed items for her home.
But, as Macie put it in a humorous caption, it was “my bad for not getting it approved by security first.”
In a video viewed more than 1.2 million times, Macie’s two Belgian Malinois dogs stand in the kitchen, barking furiously at an unseen enemy.
Macie then pans the camera to reveal this existential threat: an adorable cookie jar in the shape of a puppy wearing a ghost costume, and holding a pumpkin-shaped candy carrier in its mouth.
She wrote over the video, with the dogs still barking incessantly: “This was supposed to be a cute Halloween decoration but now it’s under 24-hour surveillance by the bite team.”
TikTok users were in stitches, awarding the video more than 280,000 likes, as one commenter posted: “I was expecting something so scary.” Another commented: “The way it’s not even realistic. Is it the eyes?!”
“I was expecting to see a realistic scary decoration and be on the dog’s side … But come on guys, what are we doing?” a third added. And one comment read: “Our dog decided yesterday that the DVD player that has been there for 2 years is now the enemy.”
And one dog owner shared: “My great Dane is horrified by starfish. Any starfish decor, dried starfish, etc. he will lose it. Also horseshoe crabs.”
Another posted that the canines were complaining: “Why! Is! He! Allowed! On! The! Counter! But! WE!!! Aren’t!”

The dogs bark at the Halloween decoration.

Belgian Malinois dogs are a herding breed known for their intelligence and loyalty to their owners, according to the American Kennel Club. They have a protective nature and make good watchdogs.
The breed is also known to be vocal when they have to be, such as when warning their owners about a possible threat—or, in this case, a cookie jar.
