What to check out at the Memememememe Exhibition

With the rise of the internet age, showing no signs of slowing down, the world of Memes has become a culture in itself known globally. The Media Majlis’ newest exhibit, Memememememe Exhibition, explores its origins, themes, and impact, offering a vibrant and interactive experience for visitors.

The exhibit is to spark new ideas and challenge conventional thinking about the fundamental question: What does it mean to meme?

The ILoveQatar.net (ILQ) team paid a visit to the exhibit and is here to tell you what to check out!

The Narrative Laundry

Do you remember Clippy?

One of the first things you’ll encounter in the exhibit is The Narrative Laundry, featuring Clippy at the center. Clippy, or Clippit, is the Microsoft Office Assistant that used to guide users on how to use the earliest versions of the applications, giving visitors a blast from the past.

It’s surrounded by faux laundry machines that project viral memes throughout the years, illustrating how memes travel through endless digital cycles, slowly losing their original meaning as they go viral.

Roomba Cat

Do you enjoy cat memes?

An installation you shouldn’t miss is the Roomba Cat, featuring a taxidermy cat on a robot vacuum cleaner whizzing around the small stage, glaring at visitors. Cats have been an endless subject for memes, and this installation solidifies their impact on meme culture.

Trust 2 and Trust 3 oil on canvas

How cool is this?

How surreal is it to see digital memes in the form of oil paintings on canvas?

Two stunning artworks immortalise viral gaming photos from the early 2000s: a laptop playing Minecraft on a makeshift desk made of cardboard boxes and an innovative LAN party set up.
