BAY VILLAGE, Ohio
Structure fire: East Oakland Road
Police were dispatched to assist the fire department with a structure fire on Jan. 9. Joggers called to report smoke pouring from the roof. The witnesses also stated they could see a dog inside in distress.
Officers quickly breached the front window for access, pulling two dogs from the home, performing CPR before transporting them to the animal hospital. Another dog and a turtle were found deceased. Firefighters from Bay Village, Rocky River, Westlake and Lakewood arrived to battle the fire. Residents were not home at the time of the fire.
Suspicious circumstance: Northfield Road
On Jan. 5 around 1:30 am, a homeowner reported that her dog began aggressively barking and ran from the bedroom to the garage door. Police checked the area outside and performed a sweep of the interior but did not find anything suspicious.
Solicitation complaint: Winston Drive
Police were dispatched for a report of a solicitor going door to door for Spectrum on Jan. 5 but could not locate the suspect. Solicitors must have a valid solicitor permit through the City of Bay Village. If they do not, please do not do business with them and consider calling the police.
Dog at large: Carlton
On Jan. 5 police assisted with a dog-at-large complaint. The victim claimed that the neighbor’s aggressive dog broke through their fence causing damage.
Scuffle: Bayfair Court
On Jan. 6 around midnight, police were dispatched for a report of a family scuffle. Two brothers had gotten into an altercation about chores and video games. One of the men agreed to leave and spend the night with a family member.
Fraud: Fairwin Drive
On Jan. 7, a resident reported she had received an email from her bank advising her of a suspicious check that was cashed. The victim stated she did not write the check and fears someone may have stolen her mail.
