Context
Trump first posted about the Freedom Fuel Network on July 1, at which point the gas stations did not appear to exist. Many people assumed, based on an AI-generated image accompanying the post, that the president had made the company up. The network of 25 stations around Philadelphia rebranded themselves to the Freedom Fuel Network in the following days.
On July 1, 2026, U.S. President Donald Trump posted on his social media platform, Truth Social, to say that a collection of 25 gas stations, known as “the Freedom Fuel Network,” around the Greater Philadelphia area would offer reduced gas prices on July 3.
Shortly after, numerous social media users claimed the gas stations didn’t exist. They did not appear on Google Maps or other platforms, and the image accompanying Trump’s Truth Social post, purportedly showing a Freedom Fuel gas station, showed clear signs of being generated using artificial intelligence software, such as blurry and jumbled letters.

A parody website — freedomfuelnetwork.lol (archived) — then popped up, further spreading the idea that Trump had made the entire thing up.
In the following days, social media posts and local news media outlets reported that the Freedom Fuel Network was real. The White House’s official Instagram page also posted about the gas stations on July 7, including an interview with a man who said he thought the whole thing was “fake news” at first. The gas was priced at $3.47 a gallon, in reference to Trump being the 47th president. That was about 50 cents cheaper than the Pennsylvania state average at that time.
Snopes readers confused by the situation wrote in, asking us to investigate.
The gas stations appear to be real. The Freedom Fuel Network has an official website, freedomfuelnetwork.com, that lists 25 locations loosely around the Philadelphia area (archived). The photos posted online and local news media articles confirmed that at least some of those gas stations had rebranded themselves. Therefore, we rate the claim true.
Some details about the Freedom Fuel Network remain unclear though, such as who owns it and why the White House was involved in promoting it. Snopes contacted the White House for comment on the story. The response we received is detailed below. We also reached out to the Freedom Fuel Network but had not heard back at the time of publication.
What we know about Freedom Fuel Network
“Freedom Fuel Network is a private company,” the White House statement began. In short, this is true, though it was not possible to identify who owns the company.
One Reddit user compiled a list (archived) of all the 25 stations in the network and their previous names on Google Maps (Snopes double-checked these to ensure they match Freedom Fuel Network’s list), but no pattern emerged to explain why they were part of the network. The stations had various names before the rebrand, including United, Valero, Shell, Gulf, Sunoco, Phillips 66, Gas N Go and Karco.
Checking Pennsylvania and New Jersey business records revealed that the Freedom Fuel Network name had not been registered in either state.
However, looking at business records in Delaware, where many of the nation’s biggest companies are officially registered, revealed that Freedom Fuel Network LLC was registered in the state on June 23, 2026, roughly one week before Trump’s announcement.
That information provided an address for the registered agent, an address required by law so that the business, if necessary, can be sued. The address listed was the Corporation Trust Center in Wilmington, an unassuming building that, according to a 2012 New York Times article, served as the registered agent address for more than 285,000 different business entities at the time, including massive companies like Walmart and Google.
A lookup via who.is — a domain data website — of Freedom Fuel Network’s website revealed that the domain had been registered through SquareSpace, an IT service management company, on June 13, 2026, 10 days before the website launched and 18 days before Trump’s announcement. Though the name of the individual who registered the domain had been entirely redacted, the mailing address showed the state — New Jersey. It was not possible to find any more information about the company or who owns it. Snopes attempted to contact the page’s administrator through SquareSpace but they did not respond prior to publication.
We also checked the website on the Internet Archive to approximate when it had first gone online. The earliest capture was made on July 2, one day after Trump’s post. The site displayed the Freedom Fuel Network’s logo, with text reading, “
The rest of the statement the White House sent read as follows: “The Administration has no role in the company. It’s not a ‘promotion,’ they are simply lowering their costs to make gas more affordable for drivers in PA and NJ.”
Because Snopes could not identify the owners, we could not confirm any connections between the Trump administration and the Freedom Fuel Network. It was also not possible to independently verify whether the act of offering lower fuel prices was a promotion for the same reason.
We will update this story with any new information as it becomes available.
