The Soo Greyhounds are alerting the public to an ongoing email scam in which fraudsters are impersonating members of the team’s business operations department in an attempt to deceive local small businesses.

In a statement issued this week, the organization said scammers have been contacting area businesses with offers of merchandise tables and advertising opportunities at upcoming Greyhounds home games for the 2025-26 season. The fraudulent emails request advance payment to secure those opportunities.

The Greyhounds emphasized that the team would never solicit payment for any product or service without first issuing an official invoice from the manager of business operations.

“Please be vigilant, and let’s work together to keep our community safe from scams,” the statement read.

The team is urging anyone who receives a suspicious message or questions the authenticity of any communication claiming to be from the Soo Greyhounds to contact the business operations department directly before taking any action.

A similar scam has been reported elsewhere in the OHL this week by the Sarnia Sting, who stated that the hockey club would “never engage in a vendor agreement without prior in-person communication.”
