Pets of the week: Both Kai and Jamie are calm and relaxed

JACKSON, MI — The Jackson County Animal Shelter, 3770 Spring Arbor Road, has many pets available for adoption.

Here are two of them.

Kai is a 2-year-old mixed breed dog that came in as a stray. This handsome guy, who weighs 45 pounds, already has his tuxedo on and has a short low maintenance hair coat.

Kai walks nicely on the leash and is house trained. He is very observant and will take a minute to warm up to new people. Kai is not a barker or a jumper, he is a pretty calm guy.

He is selective about his dog friends and uninterested in the cats. Kai knows some basic commands and would be very trainable.

Jamie is a 4-year-old female tiger cat that came in as a stray. Jamie has lots of white on her chest and legs.

She has big green eyes and a pink nose. The sights and sounds at the shelter don’t seem to bother her much.

She is relaxed and likes to be petted. Treats and napping are also two of her favorites.

Dog adoptions require an application, online. A meet-and-greet with a dog also is mandatory. A cat room walk-through is available to test reaction. The dog adoption fee is $200 for medium and large dogs. It is $300 for puppies and small dogs. Both fees include vaccinations, microchip, and sterilization.

Cat adoption fees are $60 for one cat, $80 for two, which includes applicable tests, vaccinations and spay/neutering.

Visiting the shelter is always best, but other adoption resources include online applications at https://www.co.jackson.mi.us/2302/Our-Adoptable-Animals, faxing 517-780-4750 or emailing animalshelter@mijackson.org.
