Microsoft AI today released its impressive new MAI-Image-2 AI model for creating photorealistic images.
“MAI-Image-2 is built for creatives who want images that feel like they exist in the world, with natural light, accurate skin tones, [and] environments that feel lived-in,” Microsoft AI explains. “Creatives can now spend less time fixing in post-production and more time making.”
MAI-Image-2 is good enough to warrant a top-three ranking on the Arena-AI text-to-image leaderboard, behind only Google Gemini 3.1 Flash and OpenAI GPT-Image 1.5. It was built with feedback from photographers, designers, and visual storytellers, and Microsoft AI says it enables the “consistent creation of infographics, slides, diagrams, and more, with little lost between direction and creation.”
