Funny Golden Retriever Might Be the ‘Judgiest’ Dog in the World

In the time I’ve spent with my 7-year-old dog (after raising her from 8 weeks old), there have been many times I wished I could know what she was thinking. Other times, though, I have a feeling it’s probably better that I didn’t. I just know some days she hates my outfit or thinks I’m overreacting about something, but that doesn’t mean I need to know for sure!

The Golden Retriever in the video below might have her beat when it comes to having a judgy temperament, though. I’ve never seen a human pull off quite a side-eye like this before!

This video shared by @rangerthenycgolden on TikTok shows the absolutely disgusted look on her dog’s face as he looks on at his humans in utter disdain.

He might not bite, but he does judge, and that’s something you really have to learn about a dog when you adopt them!

Are Dogs Really Judging Us?

I hate to be the one to break this news to you, but unfortunately, the research points to yes—our dogs can be a bit judgy, even when it comes to their favorite humans in the world.

According to Kinship, studies have shown that dogs can, in fact, be judgy, especially female dogs. In one study, dogs watched people trying to open a container (some with food, some without) as one struggled and the other didn’t. While the male dogs would go to either human, it was the females who always picked the person who was better at opening the jar. Smart girls!

And while all pups are big on observing their humans and the world around them, it’s females who are the most observant of all. Go figure.

Just know that next time you struggle to open that jar of peanut butter, your dog is definitely judging you. No big deal or anything!
