Councilmember Eugene J. Green and the City of New Orleans to celebrate the retirement of Tyrann Mathieu

A proud product of St. Augustine High School, Mathieu earned national recognition as a four-star recruit and was ranked the No. 13 cornerback in the nation in 2010. He continued his athletic excellence at Louisiana State University, where in 2011 he was awarded the Chuck Bednarik Award, named SEC Defensive Player of the Year, and earned All-American and First-Team All-SEC honors.

“Tyrann Mathieu’s achievements on the field are exceptional, but it is his resilience, leadership, and deep ties to our city that make this celebration so meaningful. He has inspired countless young people in New Orleans and beyond,” Councilmember Green said.

Mathieu was selected by the Arizona Cardinals as the 69th overall pick in the third round of the 2013 NFL Draft. After a year with the Houston Texans in 2018, he joined the Kansas City Chiefs, helping lead them to victory in Super Bowl LIV in 2020. In 2022, Mathieu returned home to New Orleans and played the final three seasons of his career with the New Orleans Saints.

Over his career, Mathieu earned three First-Team All-Pro selections (2015, 2019, 2020) and was a three-time Pro Bowl honoree (2015, 2020, 2021).
