Johns Hopkins Engineering, Great Learning Launch Agentic AI Certificate Program


Johns Hopkins Whiting School of Engineering and global edtech company Great Learning have launched an 18-week online certificate program designed to train professionals to build, deploy and govern agentic AI systems.

The Certificate Program in Agentic AI targets STEM professionals, AI and data practitioners, product managers and technical leaders. It combines instruction from Johns Hopkins Engineering faculty with mentorship from industry practitioners and focuses on autonomous AI systems capable of reasoning, making decisions and taking actions.

The curriculum begins with Python and AI fundamentals before moving into large language models, prompt engineering and retrieval-augmented generation. Participants will then study single- and multi-agent systems, human-agent interaction, system evaluation, monitoring and observability, security and deployment.

Additional self-paced modules cover Claude-based AI workflows and reinforcement learning. The program is structured around recorded lectures, weekly live mentorship sessions and monthly masterclasses led by Johns Hopkins Engineering faculty.

“Agentic AI is precisely that kind of challenge,” said Paul Huckett, associate dean of Johns Hopkins Engineering Executive and Professional Education, referring to engineering problems that require both technical expertise and responsible implementation. He said organizations increasingly need professionals who understand not only how to build autonomous systems but also how to govern them.

The collaboration comes as companies explore moving generative AI beyond assistant-style applications toward systems that can independently perform more complex workflows and make operational decisions.

Upon successful completion, participants will receive a Certificate of Completion from Johns Hopkins Whiting School of Engineering and 13 Continuing Education Units. They will also develop a shareable e-portfolio showcasing applied projects completed during the program.
