Yuba City veterinarian is helping local pets with a second free vaccination clinic, this time in Live Oak

If it woofs or meows, local veterinarian Eduardo Rocha Colombo will have vaccinations in hand at a free clinic he’s sponsoring in two weeks in Live Oak.

Colombo has been on staff at Davies Animal Hospital in Yuba City for five years. He knows that vaccinating can be expensive, costing about $150-$200 for each new pet with a required exam.

“Nowadays, I think it may be the economy or people can’t afford it but, people aren’t vaccinating,” Columbo said. “I just wanted to help those pets that aren’t getting vaccinated.”

At his work Colombo sees dogs and cats come in with diseases. He is a firm believer in vaccinations for pets’ health and well-being, and such moves can save their lives from potentially fatal diseases such as parvo, panleukepenia and rabies.

“It’s very, very preventable with vaccinations,” the vet advised.

This will be the second time Columbo offers a free vaccination clinic. Last year it was in Marysville. This year the clinic will be held from 10 a.m. to noon, on July 12 in the Boy Scouts building at 2670 Myrtle St., Live Oak.

Colombo wants to make it an annual event and move it to a different location each year. He hopes to hold a 2027 free vaccination clinic in Yuba City.

Colombo, a Live Oak resident, acknowledged his partnership with the city of Live Oak, Little Whiskers kitten rescue and Perfect Paws – all who helped make the free clinic possible.

The vet’s idea to offer free vaccination clinics came to him after being named Appeal-Democrat Best Veterinarian of 2025. He is in the running for the title again this year.

“This motivated me to keep doing what I am doing and help as many pets as possible,” he explained.

In 2025, Colombo vaccinated 87 canines and felines. He wants to surpass that amount this year.

“I’m going to make it bigger — as many pets as I can vaccinate,” Columbo acknowledged, adding that he hopes to have 150-200 or more walk in his door this time.

He said when he’s out walking in the community he sees people walking their dogs and hopes they’ll bring their dogs into his clinic if they need vaccinating.

“That’s one of the things I said, ‘when I become a vet, I’m going to give back to the community,’” Columbo said.
