This is why you always read the label first…
Recently, Dale Earnhardt Jr and his wife, Amy, did a festive, Christmas-themed version of their Ask Amy segment for their Bless Your Hardt podcast, where Amy ratted out her husband with a hilarious story about him eating something he definitely shouldn’t have.
Dale first clarified multiple times that he did not want it discussed on the podcast, but of course the story was too good to leave out, and Amy did it anyway, which makes it that much funnier.
Dale started out by saying:
“I don’t wanna do this. I don’t wanna do this. Can I just make sure that everybody’s aware that when this went down, I said, we ain’t putting this s*** on the show. She said, ‘Oh, yeah.’”
Amy said she was sitting on the couch, and Dale walked in with a tiny cup of ice cream:
“He’s in the kitchen, and I’m sitting on the couch, the kids had just gone to bed. And he comes to the couch with a little tiny cup of ice cream.”
Dale said he took a bite and did think it tasted funny, and when Amy realized what he was eating, she told him it was for their dogs…
“I did get out a little spoonful, and I take a bite, and I’m like, that’s strange. She’s like, that’s for the dog. I was like, ‘F***. I’m caught.”
Yikes…
To be fair, I’ve never really heard of dog ice cream, but Amy explained that it was very clearly labeled as “doggy” ice cream:
“Well, you’ve gotta read the labels, Ralph. This is your fault. It said ‘doggy’ on it. Plain and clear.”
Dale joked that he knows certain kinds of dog treats are labeled well and clearly meant for pets, but sometimes certain treats can be a little more ambiguous… and he also hilariously said that the dogs should be “raising hell” about how gross that ice cream is:
“I mean, I look at Milk-Bone and know right away I don’t need to eat that… but some stuff, you look at it, and you’re like, I can accidentally eat that. That looks like bacon. I”m gonna tell you right now, them dogs, they oughta be raising hell about s***** that ice cream is.”
I mean, it’s embarrassing, but I definitely don’t think he’s the first person to ever do that… but that doesn’t make it any less funny.
It does make for a great reminder to always read the labels before you put something in your mouth, but again, I can kind of see where Dale’ confusion was because I would never expect to go into my freezer and pull out a little carton of dog ice cream, either.
And honestly, it’s a good ting it did taste so bad, or he might’ve ended up eating the whole thing. The clip is so much funnier, though… you have to watch it to get the full effect:
