One TikTok user is going viral for an accidental purchase.

LeeAnn Searfoss exclusively tells PEOPLE how she mistakenly bought a dog sweater for herself. The Scranton, Penn., resident posted a TikTok in mid-October showing off her new Peanuts fall sweater.

The TikTok post was a carousel of several images of the orange sweater with Snoopy enjoying the fall leaves. The first photo included a mirror selfie of Searfoss showing off the cropped sweater, with a text overlay that read:

“My therapist: LeeAnn how has your mental state been lately? Me: Fine, except I bought a shirt from the clearance rack that turned out to be a sweater for a dog.”

Searfoss then added a photo of the back of the shirt, showing a small hole, and wrote: “What’s with the little hole there?” She added a close-up image and declared, “Def for a leash.”

Since sharing the post, she’s received a viral response, reassuring her that it was a simple mistake. She exclusively confesses to PEOPLE that it took her a while to notice the sweater was for a dog.

She purchased the brown sweater from the women’s clearance section of American Eagle. “I picked it up and checked out quickly, because I just thought it was a cute Fall sweater,” she says.

But once she got home to try it on, “it fit a bit weird, especially around the collar.”

“I took it off and looked at it closer and noticed the small hole in the back. I’ve had a dog in the past and pretty quickly recognized the hole was for a leash,” she says. “Once I saw the ‘American Beagle’ tag on it that pretty much clinched it for me.”

The Pennsylvania resident confesses that as soon as she realized what happened, she “couldn’t stop laughing!”

“What a silly mistake to make. Then I immediately told myself it could’ve happened to anyone,” she tells PEOPLE, before adding she considered keeping it. “I’m pretty sure I also spent about two minutes rationalizing if I could keep it and pull it off.”

Unfortunately, Searfoss doesn’t own a dog, which, she says, “which makes this story slightly more unhinged.” But she’s looking to adopt a dog, she’s considering holding onto the sweater to “let my next dog wear it when they’re ready!”

While she doesn’t have a dog of her own, TikTok users replied to her post, sharing snaps of their dogs in the sweater, and she says she “lost it!”

“I love when the internet shows up,” she says. But she didn’t intend to make it a viral moment, explaining, “As a random person who posts once in a while, I don’t focus on what will resonate with folks or do well. I like to post things I find funny or amusing. Doesn’t get more amusing to me than a grown woman whose brain is so fried from trying to function in our world day over day that she nabbed a sweater for a dog instead of a human.”

Searfoss notes that a lot of users told her it was like an episode of Broad City, when Ilana Glazer’s character accidentally does the same thing, but goes so far as to wear the dog sweater to work. “So definitely need to catch up on an episode of Broad City,” she says.

She adds that the comments were so funny. “I loved seeing folks saying they needed the laugh or it was the first time they giggled in a while,” she says.
