Overview of Key Events This Week
Trump is planning to launch the “Genesis Mission” at the White House next Monday. The initiative draws parallels to the “Manhattan Project” and the “Space Race.” The directive may call for national laboratories to undertake more work in emerging AI technology fields and could involve public-private partnership mechanisms.
Trump has also called on Congress to pass federal AI regulatory standards, advocating for a unified federal approval process to avoid obstacles caused by fragmented state-level regulation.
Ahead of the Federal Reserve’s December policy meeting, a series of key economic data delayed due to the government shutdown will be released in a concentrated period.
The U.S. Department of Commerce announced that the revised third-quarter GDP, October personal income and expenditure, as well as the PCE price index report, will be released on November 26, next Wednesday. The U.S. Department of Labor stated that the September PPI will be released on November 25.
The market expects that, driven by consumer spending, the growth rate of the U.S. economy during the quarter is still expected to exceed 3.0%. It is anticipated that there will not be a significant acceleration in the PCE price index, the Fed’s preferred inflation gauge.
Trump issued an ultimatum, stating that November 27 is the deadline for Ukraine to accept the U.S.’s ’28-point plan’. According to reports from CCTV News, key points of the ’28-point plan’ include Russia and Ukraine signing a non-aggression pact with Europe, and Ukraine committing not to join NATO. Zelenskyy proposed an alternative peace plan but insisted that ‘Ukraine will never give the enemy a reason to claim that Ukraine does not want peace.’ However, Trump stated that Zelenskyy must agree to this peace plan; otherwise, the conflict will continue. Putin indicated that Russia is willing to engage in peace talks, but this requires substantial discussions on all details of the plan.
According to Wall Street News, Michael Burry recently posted on his social media platform that tech giants are artificially inflating earnings by underestimating depreciation through the extension of the ‘useful life’ of assets. He estimates that from 2026 to 2028, large technology companies will overstate profits by $176 billion due to underestimated depreciation.
Burry promised to disclose more details on November 25. He specifically noted that by 2028, Oracle’s profits might be overstated by 26.9%, while Meta’s profits could be inflated by 20.8%.
Next week, China will release its official manufacturing PMI for November and industrial profits above designated size for October. Looking back at last month, due to factors such as the early release of some demand before the National Day holiday and a more complex international environment, the level of manufacturing activity declined somewhat. China’s official manufacturing PMI for October fell to 49, although high-tech manufacturing, equipment manufacturing, and consumer goods industries continued to expand.
