Tucson’s STAR Village helps women and pets find stability | Local News

TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) – A new initiative called STAR Village provides a temporary home for vulnerable women. The camp, with a capacity to house 25 women, is currently full and offers vital services to those in need.

The site features 25 one-person tents on astroturf, along with larger tents for meals, cooling and counseling. Services are provided by Primavera and Old Pueblo Community Services (OPCS).

Pet care is also a priority. The Pima Animal Care Center (PACC) expressed concerns about the animals’ welfare, ensuring they are vaccinated, licensed, microchipped, and preferably spayed or neutered. During a recent visit, PACC vaccinated two dogs on site, with OPCS agreeing to license the animals. Four more pets were vaccinated the following week.

PACC Director Steve Kozachik said the collaborative effort ensures the safety and well-being of the residents and their pets. The community’s commitment to STAR Village highlights the importance of serving vulnerable populations with compassion and support.

Kozachik expressed his appreciation for the efforts put into STAR Village. Community members are encouraged to help by adopting or fostering pets, volunteering or donating through PACC’s resources.
