South Burlington warns residents of permit scam emails

SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – South Burlington officials are warning residents about a scam targeting people who apply for planning or zoning permits.

They say shortly after being put on the agenda for a permit, applicants have received fake emails with bills attached, often from email addresses that end in @usa.com.

City officials say any legitimate permit-related communications will come from a southburlingtonvt.gov email address or a company called Clariti.

They say scammers using the @usa.com addresses are trying to steal personal information from applicants.

Residents who get suspicious messages and are unsure whether they are legitimate should contact the Planning and Zoning Department.
