Qatar Chamber and UNESCO Discuss AI Ethics Cooperation at Riyadh Forum – News and Statistics

Qatar Chamber has held discussions with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization on ways to strengthen cooperation in innovation, technology and the ethics of artificial intelligence, according to Qatar News Agency. The talks, reported by the state news agency, also covered promoting responsible use of emerging technologies by private-sector institutions.

The two sides met on the sidelines of the 4th Global Forum on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence, which UNESCO organized in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. They examined how artificial intelligence technologies can be harnessed while their use is kept responsible and ethical.

Both sides emphasized the need for practical frameworks that would allow companies, including small and medium-sized enterprises and startups, to adopt artificial intelligence in a responsible and ethical manner.

The discussions laid the groundwork for a cooperation agreement between Qatar Chamber and UNESCO covering artificial intelligence governance and ethics training, knowledge exchange and joint private-sector initiatives. Technical talks on the areas of cooperation and on implementation mechanisms are to be completed ahead of the memorandum being signed at a later date.

Mohamed bin Ahmed Al Obaidli, a board member of Qatar Chamber and chairman of its Food Security and Environment Committee and its Innovation and Technology Committee, pointed to the chamber’s commitment to connecting the private sector with the innovation and technology ecosystem. He also noted its role in fostering collaboration among key stakeholders, including companies, government and academic institutions, startups and international organizations.

The engagement reflects a continuing focus on aligning private-sector adoption of artificial intelligence with governance and ethical standards, with the proposed memorandum intended to formalize cooperation once technical details are settled.
