Pet Camel’s Reaction to Smelling Mom’s Socks Is LOL Funny

After a long, hard day of work outside, there’s nothing better than getting out of sweaty shoes and socks. At Head Over Hooves Farm, an animal sanctuary in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, mom Cat Hughes couldn’t wait to take hers off, so she did so, right in front of their pet camel, Apollo.

Apollo was curious about Cat’s shoes and socks and wanted to give them a sniff. Mom obliged, and what happens next will totally crack you up!

Dramatic much, Apollo? His face said it all, and we’re guessing he won’t be asking to smell his mom’s socks again anytime soon!

Cat made us laugh in the video’s caption, too, “Ok, ok…I know my feet don’t smell like flowers after having them in boots all day, but I think he was being a little dramatic here after smelling my socks!”

Commenters were cracking up about Apollo’s reaction. @deal with it 63 pointed out, “Curiosity isn’t all it’s cracked up to be…” @Wes joked, “He walked all the way away LOL!” @lorirobinson100 said what he was thinking, “He said no ma’am, I’m out.”

Another commenter said, “I’d say don’t take it personally, but we all saw the face he made…” and @heftyfatguy added, “That was an attack on his olfactory senses!”

Camels’ Strong Sense of Smell

Was Apollo being dramatic, or was he really offended by the scent of Cat’s socks? Camels have an incredible sense of smell; it’s a vital adaptation for surviving in harsh desert environments. Their sensitive nostrils can pick up scents from far away, helping them locate water, food, and even other camels.

Elephants are said to have the most smell-related genes of any animal, but camels have a nose perfectly built for the desert. Their sense of smell is finely tuned, making it a pretty impressive survival tool in their tough environment.

In fact, Curious Clinicians surprised us by explaining just how far camels can smell, “Speaking of the desert, it’s worth talking about another dry-land dweller: The camel. These beasts of burden  are able to find water up to 50 miles away.” So maybe Apollo really was grossed out by the smell of his mom’s socks!
