ALONG WITH THE OKLAHOMA COUNTY.ORG, THE OKLAHOMA COUNTY ASSESSOR’S OFFICE RECENTLY DISCOVERED A SCAM. AN EMAIL SENT OUT THAT APPEARS TO BE SENT FROM COUNTY ASSESSOR LARRY STEIN, BUT IT’S NOT HIS EMAIL ADDRESS AT ALL, AND HIS OFFICE DID NOT SEND THIS OUT. THERE WAS SOMETHING ELSE SUSPICIOUS. I HAPPEN TO BE TAKING A TRIP, AND THEY WERE TELLING EVERYBODY THAT I WAS THE EMAIL PORTRAYED THAT I WAS OUT OF TOWN, WHICH I THOUGHT WAS VERY CURIOUS AND WERE TRYING TO FIGURE OUT EXACTLY HOW THEY GOT THE INFORMATION. I’M NOT OUT THERE SOLICITING FUNDS FOR THE DISABLED, VETERANS AND THE VETERANS ADMINISTRATION. THEY HAVE THEIR OWN PARTICULAR UNIT THAT HELPS FOLKS WHO ARE IN NEED OF HOSPICE CARE. STEIN TOLD ME HE EVEN REACHED OUT TO THE VA AND THEIR STAFF CONFIRMED THIS IS NOT TYPICAL PRACTICE AT ALL, SHE SAID. THEY HAVE PROGRAMS THAT HELP HOSPICE VICTIMS. AND ANY OF THE FOLKS THAT ARE DISABLED VETERANS THAT NEED HELP, SO IT’S VERY RARE THAT ANYBODY ACTUALLY FROM A THIRD PARTY SENDS OUT AN EMAIL ASKING FOR ASSISTANCE.
