The Clear the Shelters campaign is underway this August. Charlotte-area shelters and rescues are hoping awareness continues following their big adoption events.
MOORESVILLE, N.C. — While many of the big adoption events at Charlotte-area shelters and rescues are in the books, animal groups are hoping awareness for the Clear the Shelters cause continues long after the annual event wraps up this month.
Lake Norman Humane Society is one of the participating groups and said it has seen adoptions throughout the month and urges potential pet parents to check out its available cats and dogs as the need for adoption remains high.
The organization joined WCNC+ streaming Tuesday to showcase some of its animals and encourage the community to take part in the animal welfare movement, whether it is through adopting, fostering, donating, volunteering or advocating.
Meet some of their pets
Dorothy

Brindle female hound mix, 5-years-old
What Lake Norman Humane says about her:
“Meet Dorothy our loving shy girl who is obsessed with her toys and her playmates who run endlessly with her! Dorothy is extremely sociable with other dogs but is not afraid to tell them how she feels. When it comes to people, she can be a bit shy and cautious at first but once she gets to know someone, she is very attached! She would definitely classify as a velcro dog with whoever she loves. Dorothy is an extremely smart girl who loves to learn new tricks, practice on agility courses, play with all the toys and take long walks around to smell all the smells. She is relatively good on leash but the world is a scary place for her so she can get a bit scared sometimes.
Dorothy is in our Mutts with Manners in facility training program. This program to give our long-term residents more enrichment and a chance to truly shine outside the shelter—showing who they are beyond the cards that they have been dealt. Dorothy is a gold star meaning he knows basic commands, walks well on leash and has some extra tricks up his sleeve. This also means he has a 80% accuracy in performing them!”

Lock is a silver star meaning she has 60% accuracy for basic commands and is also working on learning more advanced commands.”
Diggy

Male Coonhound mix, 2-years-old
What Lake Norman Humane says about him:
“Meet our precious hound boy, Diggy. He is full of things to say, like most hounds, and he absolutely loves some attention. Diggy is a big boy, but we aren’t sure he knows that! He loves to gently jump up and give some hugs, especially if you have treats. He absolutely loves a good toy or treat puzzle. This boy is very smart so finding people that will keep him occupied is important. Not to mention someone willing to give lots of love. He has done well with dogs from what we know and enjoys a good play session!”
Momo

What Lake Norman Humane says about her:
“Meet Momo – the Lap Cat Extraordinaire!
At just 2 years old, Momo has already earned her title as the ultimate cuddle companion. She adores being by your side, following you around like a loyal puppy, and has even taken on the role of “office helper” at Lake Norman Humane.
Momo is looking for a home where she can shine as the only cat—because truthfully, she’s all the cat you’ll ever need. Whether you’re working from home or settling in for a movie night, Momo is the perfect buddy to curl up with.
If you’re searching for a sweet, affectionate, and devoted feline friend, Momo is ready to fill that spot in your heart (and your lap).”
