Manitoba Hydro is alerting customers to a new phishing scam in which emails pretending to be official billing notices are being sent to households across the province.
The fake messages closely mimic Hydro’s legitimate “bill is ready” emails but contain subtle errors. The utility says customers should verify three key details before opening or interacting with the message: the sender must be notifications@hydro.mb.ca, and the partial service address and account number displayed must match their own.
If any of the information is incorrect, customers are urged not to reply or click on links and to delete the email immediately.
Hydro recommends logging into an online account directly through a web browser or the official Manitoba Hydro app to confirm billing information or check account balances.
The utility says it continues to guard against fraud attempts but reminds customers to stay vigilant and review scam-prevention tips available on its website.
