Man safely escapes burning Jefferson County home; pets still missing

VIDEO: A Jefferson County home was destroyed, and pets are missing after a fire late Sunday night.

Firefighters were called to 21831 Knowlesville Road in the town of Pamelia at around 11:30 p.m.

They arrived to find the home and its attached garage engulfed in flames.

Firefighters faced challenges battling the blaze.

“It was travel time. It was a distance out on the northern-western side of the town of Pamelia. My closest fill sites were four miles, five miles from there, even at the dry hydrants,” said Pamelia Fire Chief Harry Faulk Jr.

Fire officials said one man was home when the blaze broke out and was able to escape without injury.

One dog also got out safely, but 3 other dogs and a cat are unaccounted for, they said.

The American Red Cross said it provided financial assistance, which can be used for necessities such as shelter, food, and clothing, to two adults and two children, ages 4 and 5.
