Man accused of taking part in WNC email scam where people posed as PayPal reps

HENDERSON COUNTY, N.C. (FOX Carolina) – The Henderson County Sheriff’s Office reports a man was arrested on Tuesday for taking part in an email scam where people posed as PayPal representatives.

Deputies said they received a report on Monday about an email scam about people posing as PayPal representatives, and the Property Crimes Unit launched an investigation.

Detectives took part in a coordinated operation that led to 64-year-old Ronny Johnson’s arrest. He was identified as being part of a broader fraudulent scheme, according to deputies.

Johnson is facing two counts of felony aid and abet and was placed in custody at the Henderson County Detention Center.
