President Donald Trump signed an executive order earlier this year launching what his administration is calling “the Genesis Mission” — a new national effort to use artificial intelligence to transform how scientific research is conducted.
As part of this effort, and to ensure that states don’t stand in the way of the federal government’s work, the president also drafted an executive order that would preempt states from enforcing their own AI regulations.
This draft executive order is something lawmakers in New York are watching closely because there are multiple bills dealing with AI regulations in the pipeline for Gov. Kathy Hochul to sign to veto.
State Sen. Kristen Gonzalez, chair of the Internet and Technology Committee and Elections Committee, joined Susan Arbetter on Capital Tonight to discuss the issue.
