Pet Pfest returns for its 11th year at the Pflugerville Public Library on Saturday, March 14, with adoptable animals from a full slate of local rescues from 2-4 p.m.
Featured rescues include Austin Guinea Pig Rescue, Central Texas Dachshund Rescue, Cuz I Matter Rescue, Final Frontier Rescue, House Rabbit Resource Network, Luck and Legends Saint Bernard Rescue, Pflugerville Animal Welfare Service and Pug Rescue of Austin. Special this year will be a performance by Lone Star Disc Dogs. Watch these furry athletes perform amazing feats as they jump to great heights to collect flying discs. Weather permitting, this performance will take place outside of the library at 2:15 p.m. in the green space adjacent to the library parking lot. In case of inclement weather, there will be a presentation on the Disc Dogs’ past achievements in the meeting room.
As always there will be crafts and activities for kids and adults, including painted dogs and cats, jingle cat toys and leash holders for pet waste bags. Activities include balloon animals from Ms. Poppy the Clown, a selfie station and temporary tattoos.
Well-behaved pets are always welcome at the library when either on leash or carried. Pets who attend during Pet Pfest can visit the Pup Cup station for a special snack. They can choose from a menu of delicious treats, including whip cream, spray cheeze and canned pumpkin.
The rest of spring break will be just as busy.
On Monday, March 16, Tío Tóto’s Musical Storytime Adventures brings an interactive kids music show where the audience becomes the band. Through singing, movement and playful call-and-response, kids help create songs live while grownups are invited to join the fun. This bilingual, family-friendly performance blends original music, storytelling and imagination to build confidence, creativity and connection. Designed for children of all ages, the show is welcoming, energetic, and full of joyful surprises with no sitting still required.
Family Night on Monday will feature special guest Ms. Poppy the Clown teaching folded towel art. Children will learn to make special animal shapes using small towels. Towel folding, also known as towel origami, is a creative, relaxing experience for children.
On Tuesday afternoon, Ms. Poppy will be back for Kids Club to teach kids 5-8 balloon twisting basics. This introductory program provides the elementary knowledge needed to learn this fun hobby.
Teens can give back to their community and earn service time on Tuesday night by helping to spring clean the library. Tasks will include dusting, straightening and washing.
Tween Hangout for kids ages 8-12 on Wednesday evening will explore henna designs and drawing. They will make their own artistic designs on greeting cards led by special guest Ms. Sari.
On Thursday, families with kids between ages 5-12 can come in for a creative afternoon of crafting to sew small plushy poppy flowers.
On Friday March 20, our monthly Move and Groove program is energetic fun for children ages 2 to 5. All kids must have an adult with them. In the afternoon, Paint with Pfred will feature spring gnomes for all ages.
Spring break wraps up at the library on Saturday, March 21, with our regular Baby Time and Storytime programs as well as our monthly visit from the mini therapy horses of Bleat and Neigh Farm at 1 p.m.
The Pflugerville Public Library programs are free for all. No library card needed, however registration is required for some programs. Materials are provided while supplies last. Please check for up-to-date details on the library’s website: Library.Pflugervilletx.gov.
