The Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2027 tournament will depend heavily on regional transport networks as host nations attempt to prevent severe traffic congestion. Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania are each managing infrastructure timelines to ensure fans, teams, and tournament officials move efficiently across venues.
To address these transit requirements, Kenya Railways Corporation (KRC) announced a planned commuter rail link in Nairobi specifically designed to serve key sporting locations. The proposed route connects central business areas directly to major stadium venues across the city.
The designated route stops at four primary locations:
Nairobi Central
Nyayo Stadium
Kibera
Talanta Sports City
Plans also include constructing a brand-new railway station adjacent to Nyayo Stadium to handle high passenger volumes expected during match days. Transportation authorities view rail transit as a practical strategy to move large crowds quickly and affordably.
