The states say not to engage with the email and to report it instead

The States of Guernsey is warning islanders of scam emails which claim to be sent from one of its departments.

It said it had been made aware of emails claiming to be from the States – it said the emails were “more sophisticated” than previous ones and they looked “almost identical to emails sent out by the Revenue Service”.

The States said islanders needed to check the email address of the sender and to make sure it ended with @gov.gg.

It said: “Please do not click on any attachments or links within these emails and please do not reply to them.

“If you know anyone who may be particularly vulnerable to this type of scam, please help to make them aware.”

The service asked islanders to be aware of the scam and urged those who had already engaged with it to “contact your bank’s fraud team and start a report on the Action Fraud website”.
