New Delhi: Instagram has introduced affiliate links for Reels, allowing creators to tag products and earn a commission when users purchase items through their content. The announcement was shared by Instagram head Adam Mosseri on the platform.
“You can now use affiliate links to tag products in your reels and earn a commission when people shop your content. Rolling out over the coming weeks,” Mosseri stated.
The update forms part of Instagram’s broader effort to make Reels shoppable. Creators can now use the new “Add Products” option in the Share sheet to either paste a product URL, including affiliate links, or search and tag items from a brand’s commerce catalogue.
Products must be individual items in a verified catalogue, ensuring prices and availability remain up to date.
Creators can add up to 30 products per Reel, and content featuring product tags will appear in the Partnership Ads Hub, increasing visibility to brands. When viewers tap a product, they can complete purchases through the partner’s app or mobile website, with eligible creators earning a commission.
Meta said that the feature is rolling out in the US, Brazil, India, Indonesia, and Thailand, with plans to expand to all 22 Instagram commerce markets. Future updates will include additional affiliate opportunities with Amazon and Shopee, along with further tools to enhance shopping on Instagram.
