In this guide, we’ll show you how to get Ore in Gothic 1 Remake so you can buy important equipment, consumable items, and the skill training you need to survive the Colony.

Dead enemies don’t need their gear any longer — may as well take it for yourself!
How to Get Ore in Gothic 1 Remake | How to Make Money
Earning Ore (which is effectively the currency of the Colony) in Gothic 1 Remake isn’t easy at first glance, but it’s definitely doable once you know what you’re doing — and as long as you’re cautious. Here’s how to get Ore in Gothic 1 Remake!
First, A Word of Warning
Gothic 1 Remake is not a game where you’ll earn thousands of Ore quickly; you can kill a bunch of enemies and only make 50 or 100 Ore at most. Spend your Ore wisely, as everything is in short supply in the Colony!
Looting the Overworld
This one is fairly easy, but limited; you can find loose items scattered throughout the world, including on the road you first travel at the start of the game. However, this is a truly limited resource — once you loot an item, it’s not going to return, generally speaking.
You’re unlikely to find free items scattered about the world without also encountering enemies and hostile wildlife, so you should consider this a sort of “bonus” that you’ll get in the course of more normal activities.
Killing Wildlife
Hostile wildlife is an abundant resource in Gothic 1 Remake, and virtually all creatures drop something you can sell. This is good for some early-game cash, but you can take things a step further by talking to Drax the hunting trainer and learning how to get a greater amount of crafting materials out of wildlife you’ve killed.
Cooking and Refining Items
As with many similar games, raw materials aren’t usually worth as much as refined materials. Instead of selling the raw meat you get from dead hostile wildlife, you can cook it to increase its value. It takes virtually no effort to do this, and it’s usually a guaranteed way to increase your profits.
Killing Hostile Enemies
Naturally, killing hostile enemies can score you some loot. Don’t go into fights carelessly, but keep in mind that virtually all hostile humans will have something of value on them — even if it’s only the weapon they tried to kill you with.
Remember, knocking down an enemy is not the same as killing them. While you can loot a downed enemy, they will eventually get back up and they may try to kill you. It’s up to you to decide whether or not you’ll kill them or let them go (minus their stuff, of course).
Stealing
There are an abundance of locked chests in the Colony and elsewhere. If you know how to pick a lock (and you have at least 1 Lockpick), you can break into these chests to steal their contents for yourself.
Do be warned, however, that anyone witnessing you breaking into a chest may be hostile to you, and they may attack you. Don’t try to break into chests with any other NPCs around!
