Houston Roughnecks are now the Houston Gamblers with a new place to play


They us ed to be the Houston Roughnecks, playing at TDECU Stadium. That’s all changing now.

HOUSTON — One of Houston’s professional sports franchises is on the move — again.

The Houston Gamblers — the city’s newly rebranded United Football League team — will now play at Shell Energy Stadium, the East Downtown home of the Houston Dynamo FC and Houston Dash, the UFL announced Oct. 7. It’s the team’s third home stadium over the past three years, having played at the University of Houston’s TDECU Stadium in 2025 and Rice University’s Rice Stadium in 2024.

The move from TDECU Stadium to Shell Energy Stadium for the 2026 season cuts the team’s attendance capacity in half from about 40,000 to approximately 20,000. That aligns with new UFL owner Mike Repole’s vision to play games in smaller, more intimate stadiums that are better suited for the league’s attendance.

The new venue for the Houston Gamblers is part of a much broader reimagination of the UFL under Repole’s leadership.
