The Foo Fighters have announced a new drummer — while also taking a cheeky jab at artificial intelligence.
Dave Grohl and the rest of the group on Tuesday released a video — that was completely generated by AI, but promising authentic rock music.

“Hey, everyone. It’s been a while but I’m happy to announce that Foo Fighters are coming back to bring you that 100% real, raw, human element of rock and roll,” the AI Grohl says in the 70-second clip uploaded to YouTube.

The band leader holds up a sheet of paper with a “setlist” of indecipherable letters and symbols while his hand has five fingers instead of four.

An AI-generated version of bassist Nate Mendel is then seen with an elongated finger for a thumb on his left hand.
“After 30 years of being a band, we’ve realized that the most important thing to us is that what you see and hear coming from our speakers is the genuine passion of the six living, breathing human beings on stage,” the fake Mendel said.
Guitarist Pat Smear is then featured in the video with three legs, promising fans that their music is “true.”

Fans are also told that the band has been “preparing something special” as a shirtless half-human creature walks on stage while a sea of concertgoers stand quietly in the background.
The band is “rehearsing tirelessly to bring you our best from the heart.”
The fake Grohl returns to introduce the group’s new drummer, Ilan Rubin, who is pounding away with 10 arms on a massive drum kit.

At the end of the clip, the Foo Fighters tell their fans to stay tuned as there is more to come as it appears a tour may be announced soon.
Back to reality, the band took to the stage with new drummer Rubin last weekend with a surprise show in San Luis Obispo, Calif., their first in more than a year.
Rubin replaced Josh Freese earlier this year after Freese took over from the late Taylor Hawkins in 2021.
