The Electric Power Board of Chattanooga (EPB) is warning the public of a recent phishing email.
The scam email asks EPB customers to “upgrade” their email account and claims that there is a “new webmail platform.”
These messages are not coming from EPB. The company says it will never ask customers to share passwords via email, click a link to “upgrade” an account, or provide sensitive information.
EPB gives tips on how to spot a scam:
-
It pressures you to act quickly (“avoid interruption”)
-
It includes suspicious links or “Upgrade Now” buttons
-
It may come from an unfamiliar or incorrect email address
Customers who receive the email should delete it immediately and, if unsure about the message, contact EPB.
