Earthquakes, Mavericks, Marlins and Panthers announce new partnerships

The sports organisations across North America continue to expand the scope of their commercial partnerships, with clubs across Major League Soccer (MLS), the National Basketball Association (NBA), Major League Baseball (MLB) and the National Football League (NFL) unveiling new agreements spanning artificial intelligence, legal services, sports betting and stadium naming rights.

The latest announcements underscore the evolving sponsorship landscape, where brands are increasingly expected to deliver strategic business value alongside traditional marketing exposure.

Among the standout deals is Major League Soccer side San Jose Earthquakes‘ multi-year partnership with Apollo, which has become both the club’s official sleeve partner and official go-to-market partner. The agreement is believed to be one of the first in professional sports to combine a front-line sponsorship asset with the implementation of an AI-powered revenue platform designed to enhance commercial operations.

As part of the partnership, Apollo’s logo will feature on the right sleeve of the Earthquakes’ playing kit, while the company will also receive prominent branding through in-stadium signage, Apple TV MLS broadcasts, hospitality programmes and digital activations. Beyond the visibility, the collaboration will see the Earthquakes deploy Apollo’s AI-powered Go-to-Market (GTM) platform across multiple commercial functions, including sponsorship sales, group ticketing, season-ticket renewals, inbound lead management and sales automation.

Earthquakes President Jared Shawlee said, “While excitement around soccer continues to grow across the country, we’re investing in the technology and systems that will help us better engage our supporters and continue growing our commercial business. I started my career in sales and have never seen the kind of technology that Apollo provides. This will transform our approach to sales and marketing by giving us one system to connect data, automate workflows and create a more connected experience for Quakes fans throughout their journey with the club.”

The collaboration also marks Apollo’s first partnership with a professional sports organisation, reflecting a broader industry trend in which technology companies are becoming operational partners rather than solely marketing sponsors. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Elsewhere, the Dallas Mavericks have expanded their commercial portfolio by naming The Godsey Law Firm as the franchise’s official law sponsor. While details surrounding the partnership remain limited, the Texas-based personal injury firm has already begun activating the agreement through Mavericks-owned media platforms, including integrations across the club’s official podcast and digital content channels. The partnership further demonstrates how professional teams are continuing to diversify sponsorship categories beyond traditional consumer brands.

Major League Baseball’s Miami Marlins have also strengthened their commercial roster after announcing a multi-year partnership with Hard Rock Bet, which becomes the club’s official sportsbook. The agreement further cements Hard Rock Bet’s growing presence across Florida’s professional sports landscape, where it currently operates as the state’s only legal online sportsbook.

The partnership will include premium hospitality experiences, exclusive fan promotions, original digital content, broadcast integrations and prominent branding throughout loanDepot park. Beginning in August, supporters aged 21 and above attending Marlins home games will also be eligible to participate in a new “Grand Slam” promotion, receiving Bonus Bets through the Hard Rock Sportsbook app whenever Miami records a grand slam at home.

Robert Gelman, Miami Marlins Vice President of Partnership Development & Marketing, said, “As the sports betting landscape continues to evolve, Hard Rock Bet represents foundational innovation and leadership which we are excited to welcome to our Marlins family of partners. This partnership will deliver exciting rewards and experiences to Marlins fans and Hard Rock Bet players, along with unique content around the team and our games which fans will want to engage with.”

In the NFL, Bank of America and the Carolina Panthers have agreed to a long-term extension of the naming rights for Bank of America Stadium, reinforcing one of the league’s longest-standing venue partnerships. First established in 2004, the agreement reflects Bank of America’s continued commitment to Charlotte and the Carolinas while supporting the next phase of the stadium’s long-term transformation.

The extension accompanies the planned redevelopment of Bank of America Stadium through a project valued at more than US$1.3 billion. Jointly funded by the City of Charlotte and Tepper Sports & Entertainment, the renovation will introduce upgraded premium hospitality offerings, enhanced fan gathering areas, modernised team facilities, new scoreboards and a purpose-built entertainment venue adjacent to the stadium. Construction will be delivered in phases through 2030, allowing both the Carolina Panthers and Charlotte FC to continue playing at the venue throughout the redevelopment

David Tepper, owner and chairman of Tepper Sports & Entertainment, said, “The long-term extension with Bank of America reflects the strength of our partnership and our shared commitment to the Carolinas. For over three decades, Bank of America Stadium has helped create lasting memories for our fans, and we’re excited for them to see what’s ahead. Our goal is to create experiences that enhance the passion and energy of the region while transforming this corridor into a weekend destination for world-class sports, entertainment and community events.”

Collectively, the latest announcements highlight the changing priorities within the sports sponsorship industry. Partnerships are increasingly being built around technology integration, fan engagement, operational innovation and long-term infrastructure investment rather than brand visibility alone. As rights holders continue to seek new avenues for sustainable commercial growth, brands are responding with collaborations that combine marketing impact with measurable business outcomes, reinforcing sponsorship’s role as a strategic driver of organisational growth across the North American sports industry.
