If you’ve ever taken your dog to the beach, you’ve probably noticed they keep a close eye on you whenever you’re in the water. We took our dog to the beach in Florida, and she’d start panicking anytime we wandered out deeper than knee-deep, rushing in to make sure we were okay.
America’s Funniest Videos shared a clip of a dog with that exact same protective instinct, and his entire mission was to keep Dad safe, whether Dad needed the help or not. Before heading into the ocean, Dad tied the dog’s leash to a beach chair. You can hear the worried pup barking, seemingly trying to tell him to be careful. But the second Dad disappeared beneath a wave, all bets were off. Watch what happens when the dog launches a full-blown rescue mission… beach chair and all.
AFVofficial joked in the caption, “He was NOT going to be held down,” and we can’t disagree. Nothing was going to stop him from saving his dad!

Do Dogs Really Try to Rescue Their Humans?
One commenter perfectly summed it up: “Awww, you can hear it in his last bark. He was scared for his human.”
Imagine experiencing the beach from a dog’s perspective. You’re surrounded by crashing waves, excited people yelling, water splashing everywhere, and then, in the middle of all that chaos, your favorite person walks into the ocean… and suddenly disappears.
It’s no wonder so many dogs assume their humans are in trouble. Between all the unfamiliar sights and sounds, it’s easy to see why they’d jump into rescue mode. On top of that, many breeds were bred to specifically retrieve from the water, and dogs are naturally protective of the members of their pack, including us.
Dog Gone Problems explains, “When a dog hears a trigger that is followed by an activity that it is uncomfortable with or doesn’t like, this can create instant anxiety and the dog has an obvious emotional response.”
Fortunately, Dad was just fine, and so was the dog. At least now he knows that he has his own personal lifeguard ready the next time he needs one.
